Basic Concepts

1. Data Interpretation (DI)

DI involves analyzing data presented in the form of:

• Tables
• Bar Graphs

You are required to extract useful information and perform calculations.

2. Data Sufficiency (DS)

In DS, you are given a question and two statements. You need to determine whether the given data is sufficient to answer the question.

Solved Examples

Example 1 (DI)

A company’s sales in 5 months are: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 units. Find average sales.

Average = (10 + 20 + 30 + 40 + 50)/5 = 150/5 = 30 units

Example 2 (DI)

Total students = 200, 60% are boys. Find number of girls.

Boys = 120 → Girls = 200 − 120 = 80

Example 3 (DS)

What is the value of x?

Statement I: x + 2 = 5
Statement II: x − 1 = 2

From I → x = 3
From II → x = 3
Either statement alone is sufficient

Example 4 (DS)

Is x > y?

Statement I: x − y = 5
Statement II: y = 10

I alone → Not sufficient
II alone → Not sufficient
Together → x = 15, y = 10 → x > y
Both together are sufficient

Shortcut Tricks

• Approximate values in DI to save time
• Use percentage to fraction conversion
• Do not solve fully in DS, just check sufficiency
• Avoid unnecessary calculations
